Auchenback Primary School in Barrhead is earmarked for closure

Auchenback Primary School in Barrhead has been earmarked for closure.

East Renfrewshire Council is planning to shut the school down.

On their website they say: 

"It is proposed that Auchenback Primary School be closed and that the catchment area of Springhill Primary School is extended to include both catchment areas of Auchenback and Springhill primaries.

"All pupils currently attending Auchenback would transfer to Springhill and join with those pupils already attending Springhill for school session beginning in August 2011 and beyond."

Auchenback has capacity for 420 pupils but has a current roll of just 135.

The school, on Auburn Drive, is run by Head Teacher Nova Scott.

Former Scotland and Rangers manager Alex McLeish once attended the school.

He was a pupil there in the 1960s.

I am SO SADDENED to hear that Auchenback Primary School is up for closure! I taught at Auchenback Primary in 2000-2003 and this school was the heart of the community!  I feel so sorry for the children. This will be hard for them to understandl. The staff have put in there heart and souls into making Auchenback the wonderful school that it is. Where will the staff go? And what about the support staff? I heard rumours that they are abolishing their role in the INCLUSIVE school board? How does the board expect the teachers to support all the needs of Special Need Students? 

My question is what happened to doing what is best for the child?
