Inspectors give thumbs up to Barrhead's Carlibar Primary
25 JanuaryBarrhead’s Carlibar Primary is a good school - and that's official with staff and pupils celebrating a good report from inspectors this week.
Education Scotland, formerly Her Majesty's Inspectorate of Education, has released an inspection report following their Inspection of the Primary School, Family Centre, Carlibar Communication Centre and the Pre-School and Development Unit.
And they've highlighted that in seven out of eight indicators, the school is 'good' and on the eighth the school is classed as 'very good'.
The inspectors highlighted a range of strengths at the school.
Among the strengths were that the children are well behaved; children's learning experiences and achievements, the school's approaches to involving families how well the children attending the Communication Centre and the PSADU are supported.
The strong leadership of Head Teacher Stephanie MacIntyre and her Depute Head Teachers was also highlighted as a strength of the school, as was the commitment of staff to improving the work of the school.
Stephanie MacIntyre, Head Teacher of Carlibar Primary School said: "The results from this inspection show the real commitment from our school staff, pupils and parents. I was particularly delighted to see that the children's behaviour was recognised. The pupils work hard in school and recognise that good behaviour leads to good learning. It's just one of the many areas we have focussed on at Carlibar since I became Head Teacher in June 2009."

East Renfrewshire's Education Convener, Councillor Alan Lafferty, said: "The inspection report for Carlibar show's the real strengths of the school. Praise for the hard work carried out by Stephanie since her arrival is right and well justified. The school has grown since her arrival and everyone at the school should be very proud of their achievement. I know the school and the education department will work closely on the areas identified by inspectors for improvement. Together we can continue to drive Carlibar forward to even more improvement."
Among the areas for improvement identified by inspectors were that the school should increase the pace and challenge to help pupils make better progress in their learning. The school should further improve approaches to learning and teaching to ensure consistently high quality learning experiences. The school should continue to extend staff's understanding of the principles of curriculum for excellence through discussion and sharing good practice.
An action has been developed by the school to tackle all areas for further improvement.
