Shock price rises announced on Barrhead buses
20 JanuaryBus passengers in Barrhead are set to be hit by price rises, with the announcement that tickets on Arriva buses in the town are set to go up by an average of 6% from Monday 23rd January.
The announcement was posted to the company's website, with a statement saying: "We have tried to minimise this fare increase wherever possible by still offering the range of multi journey tickets across our network which can give discounts over our standard fares.
"Please be prepared from this date that you may need to pay a different amount to what you have been used to."
Arriva confirmed via their Twitter feed that the price of a weekly ticket is to rise from £14 to £14.85 from Monday - a rise of just over 6%.
However, although the rises will take effect from Monday 23rd, the announcement was not made, on the company's Twitter feed, until 4pm on Friday afternoon - 20th January. No announcement of the price rise had previously been made, either on buses, or on the company's website. You can see the statement here.
Arriva's bus services are set to be sold to McGill's, who operate other routes around Barrhead, with the Greenock-based McGill's firm set to take over Arriva's operations in late February or early March. See more on this story here on the BBC website.
